Hi, I'm Catherine Hulme.
I support headteachers and others with highly effective leadership development through executive coaching.
With a background in Secondary School Leadership, and a Primary School Governor leading on strategic vision and performance management, I founded North Star Coaching to bring together my experience of coaching within various previous roles, enhanced by my ILM Coaching qualifications.

My Background
After graduating, I tried my hand at some graduate roles in hospitality, sales and marketing. Fun as they were, they were not fulfilling my need to be “giving something back” so I made my move to become a Secondary English Teacher.
Accepted onto the highly competitive government-funded Fast Track scheme, I benefited from a professional coach and high quality CPD to accelerate my progress into school leadership. I was successful in securing my first Assistant Headteacher position within 5 years, leading Teaching & Learning, primarily through lesson observations, feedback and coaching teachers 1:1 as well as through whole staff CPD.
Also newly married, I started a family and made the extremely difficult decision to not return to my job. Whilst being at home, I took a local opportunity to become a Primary School Governor and quickly became very active: leading on the school’s vision and several aspects of Curriculum provision, recruiting a new Headteacher, chairing the Headteacher Performance Management panel and undergoing two successful Ofsted Inspections, one as Vice-Chair of the Board.
In 2017, I set-up my own coaching company to bring together my experience of coaching within various previous roles. I am working with the DfES-funded organisation, ‘Women Leaders in Education’ to coach existing and aspiring female headteachers and am looking to work with other Senior Leadership Teams.
